Sweet Potato
Slips
We love sweet potatoes! We grow several different varieties and always have extra slips! If you would like any, please let us know before they are gone! Sold April-July.
Not all varieties are sold each year. One slip can create 4-10 sweet potatoes!

To grow: You will receive the slips with roots. Place these roots in water if you are not going to immediately plant. Deep raised beds are perfect for growing sweet potatoes because they enjoy loose soil. The more loose the soil, the bigger the sweet potato will be. Plant at least one foot apart. Try not to get the leaves wet when planting. The first few days, they may look wilty but don't fret, they will perk up. Water every day for the first week. Try to plant these as soon as possible and allow to grow throughout the summer. They are ready to harvest right before the first frost. This is usually around October 15th for the Elizabethton TN area. To harvest, dig up sweet potatoes (don't wash them), and allow them to sit in an airy, very dark area for two weeks. This will help them harden off. Once this is done, store them in a cool, dark place until ready to use. Sweet potato leaves are also edible! (The leaves of regular potatoes are not edible)
